rob
I actually got hit by a bus who ran a red light while walking across a street, thrown 30ft and walked away relatively unhurt.

Yes I meant Yet another Saturday Night. It always seemed like predictable punishment for having a day job.
On that last bus WOW, never let 'em tell ya that they're all the same.

I've heard that tale. But I'd rather you were here to tell it to me twice than the alternative.

Ah! A close match for LLR! And I heard these two in person! Had forgotten...yuck...what is it with Bob and Barlow?
They could morph into the "Paul McCart post beatle meets the DEAD" for song writing and it was just not a pretty combination...

It's actually lazy > supplication

Lazy is a little cheesy, I can acknowledge

I don't recall it while going, BUT have heard a number of folks mention this aspect (that the playing could be good on these tunes, or one at least, whatever the order was).

I just think it's really funny, threads about what songs we DON'T like get so long so quickly, you'd think we don't actually like this band much.

I think it proves that we are in fact an objective, critical, and highly thoughtful bunch that do not simply put flowers in our ears, ingest or smoke anything handed to us (unless we've done the research), and twirl about to any ol tune that blasts out of the street speakers while dis-robing to boot!

You, kind sir, may twirl and ingest at will; you've paid your dues...I just want the youngsters to understand we don't condone just going around willy nilly or they might get in trouble and say "but the ol guys at the Forum said..."

Hand down, no contest
Absolutely sucky song.
I agree with the sentiment, and it's born out by the fact that no woman wrote this sucky song.

Of the female persuasion here, and I like that song. The lyrics aren't brilliant or anything, but it's snappy.

Re: Worst Dead Tune? |
Agreed.
Also, I think that most of us have more than one or two unflattering thoughts about the band/music, but are often reticent to share those thoughts for fear backlash. When someone starts a thread asking us to share those thoughts, and we see other folks doing so, it's like opening up a flood gate. For example, it has recently been discussed here just how many of us find Terrapin rather self-indulgent and boring. Expressing negative opinions and then backing those up with concrete reasons only mean that we are paying attention to the music and not just accepting anything the band/Jerry produced as beyond reproach. I rather think that Jerry would prefer a well-informed critic over a mindless lemming anyday.

Did I ever get it for going at with the Terrapin guy...then, it turned out, everyone was "for" me...I was pleasantly surprised, but it was scary there for a while...maybe you guys were just seeing how long I'd last without any help? Then Rob came in, both guns blazing, and I dozed off again...

Re: Worst Dead Tune? |
I saw Terrapin live in 89 and it was pretty damn good. However, it's not something I seek out when listening to the historic recordings.
And yes, I think we can all point to songs or performances that make us wince.
Like La Bamba 1987-9-18. I like the set, but Jerr belting out Spanish lyrics was not pretty.
Tawk amongst yourselves....

I saw it a couple of times I think, but would have to look it up...since I was going all the time in 77 and 78, assume so, right?
EDIT: whoops, just realized I saw it 8 times...jeezzz.

Re: Worst Dead Tune? |
I like that Jerry gave the Spanish a go. Yes he butchered the first set of lyrics but he did okay on the "yo no soy marinero" lyrics and the crowd acknowledged it. Much easier listening to him butcher lyrics in Spanish than what he (and Bob) did to lyrics in English on many occasions.

What a thread! Cool, SYWife...
And, it looks like quite a few fessed up to the "lyrics as romantic fodder routine", so I feel much better now...even our own esteemed CMiller...
Thanks one and all, and you too STW.
